Tasseomancy - Tea Leaf Reading
Tasseomancy or tasseography is the art of reading the shapes left behind in a cup of loose-leaf tea and has been around for centuries.
Thoughts of it conjure up a Grandmother figure in a dimly lit Victorian parlour pouring tea from a grand teapot into China teacups on a crisp tablecloth. Or a Romany woman doing much the same in her colourfully decorated caravan.
Tea leaf reading may have begun in China. The East India Company brought tea to Europe in the 17th century and probably brought the art of reading the tea leaves too.
Reading tea leaves is accessible divination. Tasseomancy can be incorporated into an enjoyable pastime, especially when accompanied by cake and friends.
